I have been an athlete all my life and had taken various yoga classes over the years.
When I started taking class with James, my entire being changed. His system and
his way of transmitting information resonated with me. After a few months of classes,
I went on a retreat in Mexico with James and that really made it clear to me that
I wanted to become a yoga teacher. He encouraged me and now I have completed his
SomaYoga Teacher Training and SomaBodywork training. The foundation of anatomy for
both courses makes them very powerful and effective. Everything makes sense once
you learn anatomy and how the body functions. I loved learning about my body after
years of using it so much. I am on a new path in life and am I am very happy to
be helping others as well. That added a lot of purpose to my life. Everyday I am
grateful to have found such a wonderful teacher and that I gave myself the opportunity
to experience all he has to offer.

The SomaYoga Teacher Training really changed my life. I never thought I could teach
yoga but James’s course gave me the knowledge and confidence to do it. I have always
had a flexible body but had no idea how to teach people that have injuries or non-flexible
bodies. The focus on anatomy as it relates to his yoga system gave me that confidence.
The system is a holistic approach to healing and gave me many ways to help my students

The SomaYoga Teacher Training program was an amazing experience for me because of
the focus on anatomy. As we studied the structure and inner workings of the body,
I was able to apply the information directly to the yoga classes I practiced and
taught. Because of this, I was able to use the information learned in anatomy class
to actual yoga poses. James’s approach to transmitting the course content made me
feel very comfortable even when I was a little overwhelmed by studying all the muscles,
bones, joints, and attachments of the body. Doing three hours of yoga per day left
me feeling healthier than I had ever felt in my life. It completely changed my yoga
practice and my life.

I was very pleased with the SomaYoga Teacher Training. I really value the emphasis
on anatomy and alignment as the foundation of both the SomaYoga style and the training
program. James has also developed an invaluable set of self-massage techniques that
are fantastic for helping my students to work through specific restrictions and
make quicker progress in their practice. I am glad we learned to give detailed alignment
directions out loud, the focus on verbal adjustments because it allows me to reach
out or respond to a student on the other side of the room so much faster. Overall,
the training was a great preparation for becoming a teacher. It totally changed
my own practice and it boosted my confidence in my ability to share yoga with others.

I graduated from both the SomaYoga and the SomaBodywork programs. The SomaYoga program
began with an in depth study of anatomy. In the training we learned to develop a
practice, create a rhythm to our classes, learn routines that provide structure
as we were learning and understand the asanas from an anatomical base so we could
teach them to anyone. A big focus was on injury prevention and learning to make
advanced modifications not found in many yoga trainings. James' unique style of
yoga is much more than a set of poses. It gives you the foundation to understand
how to work with any type of student. It is also presented clearly enough that anyone
can learn his system and feel safe no matter what level they’re at. It’s a great
program that provides a way of learning about yourself, sharing that knowledge with
others and providing a healthy life style / career path for the teacher. Thanks
