TEACHER TRAINING

glossary

The 500-hour SomaYoga Teacher Training Program is approved by Yoga Alliance. It is a unique step forward in yoga teacher training because of its very strong focus on understanding the body through anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and injury analysis. This allows new teachers to understand how to work safely with individual students that have unique injuries, backgrounds and needs. It also frees them from simply parroting their teachers or repeating a one size fits all yoga routine. This empowers new yoga teachers to teach safe classes and allows their individual gifts to manifest organically over time, within the established tradition of yoga.

The SomaYoga Teacher Training Program includes: yoga asana, postural alignment, biomechanics, asana modifications, hands-on adjusting, prop usage, pranayama (breath work), bandhas (energy locks), hip / shoulder opening, targeted yoga therapy, targeted self-massage, anatomy, physiology, postural analysis, movement analysis, injury analysis, energy anatomy, five element theory, Taoist breath work, meditation, voice use, yoga business and philosophy. A 100-hour internship is required for certification.

The SomaBodywork program compliments the SomaYoga Teacher Training course as a healing technique with emphasis on understanding the body and providing targeted and modifiable techniques that can be tailored for each student to support their healing process.

The Yoga and Bodywork Programs can be taken together or separately. Strong anatomical focus is the foundation for both programs. This deep understanding of physical & energetic anatomy empowers SomaYoga and SomaBodywork practitioners to do powerful healing work by tailoring the class or bodywork session to any student or client with any type of injury or restriction. Yoga and bodywork support one another as healing systems and complimentary learning experiences. It also gives the teacher / therapist an advantage in the health business world, by giving them multiple ways to approach healing and the ability to tailor their work to the individual.
